[VolunteerMatch - Where Volunteering Begins.]

Our name implies our main purpose - the American Pan-African Relief Agencies and its partners provide relief materials, food, financial support, and medical supplies to save lives and to fulfill emergency needs. Natural disasters such as fire, flood, earthquakes, El Nino fish kills, wars and hurricanes happen at irregular and unpredictable times, resulting in loss of life, temporary or permanent injury, damage and destruction of property, homelessness, and financial loss. And these events are common in many parts of our world including the Pan-African region.

Relief for Trade Tower Recalling the many natural and man-made disasters, wars and intertribal conflicts around the world during the past few years, there are singular events still very fresh in our memories. One close to us in the United States is the September 11, 2001, terrorist attack when the World Trade Center towers in New York were destroyed, leaving thousands dead and billions of dollars in financial loss. APARA was proud to be part of the collective efforts headed by The Red Cross, Safe Horizon, The Salvation Army and the 9/11 United Services Corps on behalf of the African immigrants in New York affected by this disaster.

Beginning in 2002, a series of fire, flood and hurricane disasters occurred in various parts of the USA, Haiti and in other Caribbean countries. During that same period in the Pan-African regions, intertribal conflicts and wars continued killing thousands, and war and climate related famine and drought devastated several African countries.

APARA's Outreach to Victims of Disaster and Disease

AIDS orphans at the Mission

APARA, in partnership with other international relief organizations are providing both financial and other relief assistance to many affected victims. During 2001 and 2002, APARA provided financial and other material relief and assistance to over 1000 victims of the September 11th World Trade Center terrorist attack. In 2003 and 2004, APARA, in partnership with the U.S. based African Christian organization ACF, provided food and other relief materials and embarked on building a children's center, housing and health clinic projects for AIDS Orphans and Vulnerable Children in Uganda and for war and famine refugees of Sudan (see Programs in Africa for details).
